HANDS

Sunny Sunday afternoons in street lines making a party
(by party i mean, running around the corner for shots and a beer to kill time, then coming back to your friends and taking turns).
Nothing like some friends and some Makers Mark to have a fun time.
I showed off my crazy tan line in my homemade french terry tank dress and kicked on the beloved Blundstones... speaking of Australia, I've been listening to this single called Hands by the Melbourne based band Alpine. Supposedly they have an album coming out some time this year (Ivy League Records).
I had never watched the video before but I pulled it up today and its so insane. Cult girls going whack in their pale monochromatic jersey outfits. Then I pictured myself in the video in this dress making out with the window. Love it.

Wait for the Summer

I wore this outfit on the 78 degree Saturday we just had in NYC. LOVE that. My vintage Mens early 1970s Towncraft knit tank with homemade polka dot shorts, Zara sandals and a sweet necklace I picked up at Portobello Road in London. Friends, babies, some booze, SUNSHINE, parks...all GOOD things.
So earlier in the week I had gone to visit some friends at a place I used to work in the West Village. Old friends, memories, and then the song Wait for Summer by Yeasayer came on and it brought me back to 2009. I LOVED/ LOVE that song. I went home that night and coincidentally, Yeasayer had literally just released their new single Henrietta on Secretly Canadian that same day (so strange, so good, what else?). So, I had me some Yeasayer in my earbuds all day long walking around, then coming home to start fixing up my bike. Night followed with a show at Cameo Gallery then a little Commodore action....
Wait for the Summer, its almost here!

Local Motion

You cant be mad at the world when you get days like we did yesterday. SPRING IN THE CITY, when its good, its great as was my day. Woke up with the sun shining on my bed and was quick to grab a short skirt! Love this cotton one I picked up at the Rose Bowl back in March. My trusted black booties, a cut off leopard print tee, some bangles, my Libra necklace and the sweetest Local Motion sweatshirt in Lieu of a jacket (No Jacket weather makes me high)!
For the evening, Oysters, Olives, and Cocktails with a dear friend dishing about my life, her trip to Tokyo, and diving into future plans of Roller Coaster riding (YES!). That was followed by a trip to The Wren on Bowery to visit my Benji, another cocktail, some candy. All is good. Lets move on with it this summer. XX

Just a few tunes for you that Ive been listening to for U as well....
HAIM - BETTER OFF from the trio of sisters from LA who offered up a FREE (whoop!) 3 song EP called FOREVER on their website which I downloaded back in February. Go get it yall. CLICK HERE.
LA SERA - BREAK MY HEART I love how sunny this is even though its about heartbreak. Im going to see her at Cameo on Saturday!
MILWALKIE - SURF, SURF, SURF - I just discovered this while " Surfing" (ha ha) the internets, and Im all about it. Plus it just happens to go back to my surf themed sweatshirt. MILWALKIE does not refer to the Mid-westerners that I surround myself in on the Corner of Waverly and Grove at Joseph Leonard but rather is an indie band from Berlin... Sweetness like a German Real Estate yeah?. Geniessen

Oh Sheila

For a Happy Mothers day celebration yesterday I made an homage to my mama in her late 1970's crop Huntington Beach tee. Black jeans and my vintage faux Versace belt finished up my look so I could meet my girls at Robertas. I heart Tiki Disco. I think dancing to mid 80s top billboard hits will always do the trick for a better day.
Oh Sheila.

So Low, So High

Im in Love with my Love Sam maxi skirt (worn as dress), with stacked vintage rings, belt and Rag & Bone booties... Free, flowing, transitional. So Low, So High kind of describes how I've been feeling the last few days.... But no, So Low, So High is a lovely new single by Brooklyn based
The dreamy folk pop is sultry but uplifting. And let me also just say, that if you could see them perform... beautiful burlesque come musician, its not your average indie music show.

Stream the song below via soundcloud, and buy the single just released yesterday on Family Records HERE.

Check them out next Tuesday at Cameo Gallery in Williamsburg, Or May 27th at the Ace Hotel in Manhattan.

Monday, May 7

In case you were looking for some Melodrama on your Monday....

Have I got plenty for you. One of those weekends.... As my friend Josh would say, Im really going through it. To say the least. Well im an Emo at heart so this actually quite fitting. Vintage silk dress, vintage mary janes, vintage rhinestones... I forgot the running mascara part though.

And of course a soundtrack for the somber sap. repeat repeat repeat. Doesnt every song seem to just speak to you at a time like this? Get in your head.

CANT- Believe Off of Chris Taylors' solo album (Dreams Come True) released back in September on his own label Terrible Records

Then comes Happy Be Fine from Poliça...The Minnesota team of dream weaving synthed vocal dreariness that I LOVE. Then theres Dont Fall in Love by Still Corners, the UK band that I unfortunately was completely sleeping on until months they released their first full length on Subpop. This song came out in 2010, but whatever, its perfect for me now. And for that matter, so is their WHOLE album Creatures of an Hour (October,2011). Lets all live in some creepy horror film dreamscape for a good 1/2 hour or so while it plays through.....

Steal Her Look April 25th

As part of my time away from A Part of the Rest blogging, I spent two weeks of inspiration shopping, eating, laughing, and taking in the culture of Barcelona, Paris & London with the one and only Dawn Mayo. She has impeccable taste and is the creative direction for her two contemporary labels Love Sam & Chelsea Flower. We worked hard gathering pieces and themes of design for her Spring 2013 collections, but had some breaks along the way. Here is Dawn at Shoreditch House in Londons East End. Cool and casual as always with her signature boho flair, Ms. Mayo was relaxed and open to possibilities. Im not going to go into that, but I think this awesome song I recently discovered by the UK artist Kindness is fitting for her current state of affairs.
Steal her look below and check out the song House from the upcoming  World, You Need a Change of Mind LP (Terrible Records).

(Givenchy at L'Eclaireur Sévigné, Self Photo at Centre Pompidou, another self portrait at Pretty Box vintage in the Marais, La Tour Eiffel at night, Isabel Marant bracelet and my collection of necklaces in El Places des Vosges)

(Vintage at Portobello Road market, my new necklace layering bone and beading from North Africa mixes well with leather moto.. Proenza Schouler muli python sandals at Joseph, more flea market necklaces, view of the contemporary floor at Liberty)

So its been over a month guys, but im back to blogging. After a 2 week trip to Barcelona, Paris and London for inspiration shopping with 2 great collections, a week vacay (kinda) in Seattle, Im back.
Heres just a little peek at what I was up to on my Euro-trip.
From the small street shops in El Born (My fave was Coquette) to Rue St. Honoré Paris shopping at some of the best stores in the world (Collette) and my always favorite L'Eclaireur. I walked all OVER Le Marais to hit every shop. Then finally to London, for a little Liberty, Harvey Nichols, Browns, Joseph and of course the Portobello Road & Spitalfield flea markets.
Shopping, walking, vintage, shopping, shopping, shopping, no complaints.
Thanks for your patience, more blogging begins soon.

Scenes from a Flea Market

I traveled to Los Angeles over the weekend for work and to go to the Rose Bowl flea market in Pasadena. Rise and shine to tackle the huge venue of over 1,500 vintage and antique vendors for inspiration. In the meantime I ran into Matt of the band Soft Swells while shopping. Heres some photos of the market and the video for Soft Swells (Modern Outsider Records) song Every Little Thing

Please Be My Third Eye... LA style

(Hand made wood, resin & metal necklace, Vintage tee, Thread Social skirt, Vera Wang Lavender Label heels)
Here I am last Friday in Sunny in Los Angeles at the Sunset Towers. Weather was up to 80 degrees, and I was feelin' it! Although I was there for work, I had to color mix it up and catch some light from my balcony.
While I had seen this video for La Sera "Please Be My Third Eye" about a month ago, It came back to me driving around Los Angeles where the video was recorded and the upcoming album Sees the Light (March 27th, Hardly Art)  was recorded. What a delight

Steal her Look March 7th

Taken at NYFW last month. Elle.com "On the Town" feature of street snaps caught this pre spring look. The flowy printed dress is de-summerized with the addition of the long sleeve button up. Button it to the neck for a covered up daytime look. I also love how this statement necklace is clear, keeping the outfit light. Some strappy heels and a stuffed neutral color bag finish it off.
